Executive summary

Supergreen Planet DCD

HVAC is one of the largest electricity loads in Malaysian commercial buildings, hospitals, malls and hotels. Fixed-speed AHUs, chilled-water pumps and cooling towers often run at full power regardless of occupancy or demand.

Supergreen Planet’s Demand Control Drives (DCD) adjust HVAC and pumping to real thermal demand. Reported savings: 40–60% for AHUs, 30–40% for chilled-water pumps and cooling towers, and 40–50% for Water Cooled Package Units (WCPU).

To add live visibility, remote control and proof of savings, Supergreen partnered with WSmart. Wireless LoRaWAN hardware into WSmart.io is live at sites including Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kota Kinabalu, Oriental Melaka Medical Centre, NU Sentral, Aman Sentral, seven Columbia Asia branches, DKSH, Computime, E&O Hotel, Mydin Parit Buntar and TDK.

The challenge

The challenge

  • Real-time data collection: automate power and electrical telemetry from DCD-controlled HVAC equipment.
  • Remote and scheduled control: provide remote on/off control for AHUs, pumps and mechanical loads with manual override and time-based scheduling.
  • Automated ROI and savings proof: compare against pre-installation baselines to calculate kWh saved, MYR savings and CO₂ reduction.
  • Auditable ESG reporting: produce exportable energy-performance reports for clients, auditors and sustainability compliance.
  • Rapid, cost-effective deployment: minimise cabling and civil works across large hospitals, malls and multi-building facilities.
  • Traditional wired BMS involves extensive field wiring, high labour cost and long disruption cycles, so a long-range wireless approach was needed for scalable deployment.

Architecture pillar

The solution · WSmart.io cloud + wireless LoRaWAN

WSmart deployed a wireless data and remote-control layer linking Supergreen DCD panels, power meters and HVAC circuits into WSmart.io.

01

RAK Bridge IO field node

Beside DCD panels and RS485 meters, the field node reads energy data and uses DI/DO for status feedback and relay commands — manual or scheduled AHU/pump control.

02

RAK LoRaWAN gateway

Receives long-range telemetry from Bridge IO nodes and forwards it over LTE or Wi-Fi — cutting thousands of metres of field wiring.

03

WSmart.io IoT Cloud Platform

Live dashboards, baseline-versus-current comparison, automatic MYR/kWh/CO₂ figures, history, reports and multi-site management across Malaysia.

04

Safety bypass integration

The DCD system keeps a physical bypass switch. During maintenance or emergency, local HVAC controls continue to work while WSmart keeps monitoring the data.

HVAC application workflows

HVAC application workflows

Air Handling Unit (AHU)

Dynamic airflow optimisation with real-time WSmart.io telemetry and reported energy savings of 40–60%.

Chilled-water pump

Demand-controlled pumping with automated remote switching and reported power reduction of 30–40%.

Cooling tower

Cooling-fan speed adjustment with scheduled/manual control and reported savings of 30–40%.

Water Cooled Package Unit (WCPU)

Compressor and blower optimisation with reported power reduction of 40–50%.

Outcome

Results, validation and sites

  • The DCD and WSmart.io integration delivers measurable energy reduction, operational control and auditable performance evidence.
  • JKR (Malaysia Public Works Department) verified the solution under its POC validation programme.
  • TNB Energy Services endorsed the solution; the supporting quality and product credentials include ISO 9001:2015, SIRIM QAS test-report compliance and the MyHIJAU Mark.
